Nokia C5-03 hands-on Roundup

Published by Mike Browne March 01, 2011

The Nokia C5-03 has been in our hands for the last few weeks and we’ve been checking out all its varied capabilities, from the rather bright 3.2-inch touchscreen, to the array of software you’ll find on-board. Here we bring those reviews together in one easy bitsize guide we like to call the Nokia C5-03 review roundup.

The Nokia C5-03 is a Symbian S60 5th Edition smartphone aimed at the entry-level market. It as a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, comes with a 5-Megapixel camera and is the slimmest and lightest Symbian S60 5th Edition smartphone to-date. Here is what we thought of the Nokia C5-03.

What’s in the box, that’s what everyone wants to know and we have to admit that it was no different with the Nokia C5-03. After all, this is a quite a departure from the original Nokia C5, which was a standard candybar feature phone.

With the brand spanking new Nokia C5-03, you’ll get a touchscreen display, that measures in at a highly usable 3.2 inches, the Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system and even a 5-Megapixel CCD camera.

It’s curious that Nokia hasn’t moved the OS on the Nokia C5-03 up to Symbian^3 but then it readily allows you to tap into the thousands of apps developed for the Symbian S60 platform. The display on the Nokia C5-03 isn’t as responsive as you’ll find on more expensive Nokia devices. What’s more, you need to give the screen quite a firm push when typing out email or text messaging. Being a resistive display we were hoping for a stylus but sadly one is tucked away in the device.

We really like the layout and design and the fact this is an incredibly slim smartphone makes it a very mainstream and highly usable device. Juts because it has a popularist look, don’t be fooled into thinking this is a cheap and cheerful device.

Far from it, as we’ve found it to be rather touch and resilient, as the casing feels nice and tough.

Nokia C5-03 Camera hands-on

In tech terms, the Nokia C5-03 is a 5-Megapixel camera, so you can snap images up to 2592 x 1944 pixels in size. There is a 4x digital zoom, which works surprisingly well for those times when you’re a little too far away and want to get right in amongst the action. Perhaps the most curious feature on the Nokia C5-03 is that it comes without Flash, so you won’t be able to take many pictures in low light conditions. However, there is a Low Light mode you can choose from the Settings that will allow you to get decent snaps in darker rooms.

Nokia C5-03 Software hands-on

The choice of apps pre-installed on the Nokia C5-03 is pretty standard for an entry-level smartphone. So you’ll find the standard Calendar, Contacts, Messaging, Web and Music, as well as instant access to the Camera, Ovi Maps and the Nokia Ovi Store.
