Nokia Lumia 610: How to transfer contacts

Published by Mike Browne June 21, 2012

The Nokia Lumia 610 is a budget smartphone running Windows Phone and is the perfect upgrade from the likes of the Nokia 5800, Nokia X6, or even the Nokia C7. Whichever handset you’re moving up from you can easily move your Contacts over. Here we look at how to transfer contacts on your Nokia Lumia 610.

The Nokia Lumia 610 is a 3.7-inch smartphone running Windows Phone, which is a complete departure from the Symbian OS found on older Nokia handsets. However, Nokia has ensured that the contact transfer process is pretty painless.

How to set up your Nokia Lumia 610

In fact, there are a couple of really easy ways to transfer contacts to your new Nokia Lumia 610. The first, and possibly the easiest, is the aptly named Contacts Transfer app that comes preinstalled on your Nokia Lumia 610.

Contacts Transfer uses Bluetooth to bring your numbers across, so all you need to make sure is that your old phone has Bluetooth on-board. From the start page, tap the arrow to go to the second page menu (or just slide your finger left on the screen). Now navigate to the Contact Transfer app, tap it and make sure Bluetooth is switched on both your old and your new Nokia Lumia 610.

Once you’ve started Contact Transfers on your Nokia Lumia 610 you’ll be taken to the Bluetooth menu, where you’ll find any devices in your area that are using Bluetooth and visible. Select your old Nokia phone and accept the pairing on both phones. Once linked you’ll find that contacts are sent over automatically. Now, how easy is that?

The second method to swapping over Contacts onto your Nokia Lumia 610 isn’t quite as easy but isn’t too tricky as it uses your email account as a conduit. The main difference with this method is that it needs you to be a little more methodical and to have backed up your contacts to your email account and not simply stored them on your SIM card.

If you have a Gmail, Hotmail or similar account simply go into the set-up email tile on the start menu, or into email+accounts in the settings menu and add an account. Now select the appropriate service and input your details.

Now, in addition to your emails and calendar entries, you can opt to synchronise contacts from this account. This means that you contacts from Gmail, Hotmail and the like will appear in the People section with all the relevant detail – including their profile photo and (where supplied or added at the Gmail end) their telephone number.

Whichever way you choose to do it, transferring contacts to your Nokia Lumia 610 is easy and pain free. Got any tips you’d like to share with us? Let us know in the Comments below.
