When it comes to smartphone operating systems, Windows Phone 7 on the Nokia Lumia 800  is as intuitive as they come. Still, there are a number of symbols that occupy the top of the screen and it might not always be apparent what they mean. Let’s take a look at  what the signal symbols stand for.

Understanding Battery Symbols on your Nokia Lumia 800

The little signal symbol has been a constant on Nokia phones for years. They’re so familiar to us, in fact, that we don’t often stop to consider what they might mean – or even if we know what every symbol stands for.

Is it important that you do? If you’ve ever stood staring at your phone and wondering why your phone isn’t connecting to a call, then it could well be!

Thankfully, Microsoft provides a handy guide to these symbols over on the Windows Phone website. Here’s a run-down of what they are and what they mean.

No signal icon

No network signal at all. This means you’re in an area with zero network coverage. If you’re inside and you see this, try taking your phone near to a window or even outside.

Airplane mode icon

Airplane mode is switched on. This means that your phone is completely disconnected from external networks – no mobile network, no Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth.

SIM card missing icon

No SIM card present – which of course means you can’t make any calls!

SIM card locked icon

Your SIM card is inserted but locked. You’ll have to insert the correct PIN code if you want to make any calls. If you don’t remember inserting your own at any point in the past, try 1234 or 0000.

Now you know exactly what those little symbols at the top left of your Nokia Lumia 800 mean.
