Nokia Lumia 920 Vs Samsung Ativ S: Windows Phone 8 flagships clash!

Published by Mike Browne September 06, 2012

The emergence of the Nokia Lumia 920 has taken the world by storm as its clearly the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone with innovation high on the agenda. It’s clearly shadowed the Samsung Ativ S but how do the pair stack up? Let’s find out what happens when the Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Ativ S Windows Phone 8 flagships clash!

The arrival of Windows Phone 8 means that both Nokia and Samsung have greater flexibility and freedom to bring a host of technologies to market. Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Ativ S offer up pretty much the same base tech spec, so you’ll find a 1.5GHz dual-core processor supported by 1GB of RAM. This is more than enough to give your new Windows Phone 8 smartphone plenty of operating speed.

Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and Samsung Ativ S come with 32GB of internal memory, though Samsung has announced there will be a budget 16GB version, as well as microSD card slot support.

The Samsung Ativ S clearly has the edge in terms of size and weight and even manages to pack in a larger size battery, but you won’t find wireless charging like you get integrated into the Nokia Lumia 920.

Samsung has clearly focussed on size but when it comes to going the extra mile in terms of features and innovation, here Nokia is ahead of the game with the Nokia Lumia 920. That slightly thicker body is there to house the PureView camera that will simply blow the socks off what looks like being a rather standard 8-Megapixel affair on the Samsung Ativ S.

Nokia has also worked closely with Windows Phone 8 development team to make sure that the Nokia camera technologies give the Nokia Lumia user the best photo and video experience of any smartphone. We’ll have to wait and see what Samsung has done to hone its camera.

Nokia clearly has a better strategy when it comes to offering the user more. Nokia location-based services are an integral part of the Windows Phone 8 experience, so even the Samsung can now have a better mapping experience, but Nokia is going further with new enhanced Nokia Maps, Nokia Transport and Nokia City Lens features that make the mapping experience on the Nokia Lumia 920 simply miles ahead of the opposition.

We’re clearly in awe of the Nokia Lumia 920, it’s everything the Windows Phone fan expected from a cutting-edge smartphone but we think Samsung need to try a bit harder. What do you think?
