How to reset your Nokia Lumia 610

The Nokia Lumia 610 is the entry-level smartphone of the Nokia Windows Phone range but has proven to be one of the most reliable and stable smartphones we’ve used. However, even the most sturdy OS can sometimes go a little haywire. Here we look at how to reset your Nokia Lumia 610.

The Nokia Lumia 610 is a complex computer you just so happen to carry around in your hand and just like any computer, the OS will sometimes forget where it is and seize up. This can be for any number of reasons, such as trying to handle too many instructions at once, to simply an error.

The most obvious step to take when looking to reboot any computer is to take out the battery, which is easily done with the Nokia Lumia 610 thanks to the stylish backplate. However, there are a couple of neat tricks that Nokia have built into all Nokia Lumia handsets to allow you to reset your smartphone without having to pull the back off.

The first is known as the ‘soft’ reset, and in many cases is the equivalent of pulling out the battery in any other phone with a back cover. To carry this out all you need do is simply hold down the Volume down and Power buttons down until the Nokia Lumia 610 restarts.

You’ll know when the soft reset is taking place as you’ll see the Nokia screen appear, as though you’ve just switched your Nokia Lumia 610 on. Don’t worry though, this method doesn’t change any settings, it simply takes the Lumia back to a normal working state.

The ‘hard reset’ is something a little more serious and should only be carried out if you’re in serious trouble with your Nokia Lumia 610. This is because performing a hard reset completely wipes the information on your smartphone and returns it to factory conditions.

Normally, we’d suggest you only carry out a hard reset as a last resort, and then only if you’ve recently backed up your Nokia Lumia 610. That’s why it’s best to make a back-up while things are going well!

To carry out a hard reset you need to hold down the Camera, Power and Volume down buttons simultaneously, also known as the three-finger grip. When the phone vibrates, hold down the Volume down and Camera buttons (removing your finger from the Power button) for a further few seconds.

Your Nokia Lumia 610 will restart in the same condition as when you very first bought it, so you’ll need to carry out any updates and re-install all your apps.

Like we mentioned, this is an extreme measure, and not one you should have to bother with if you have a fully up to date Nokia Lumia 610. There are always exceptions, so it’s good to have this useful bit of knowledge ready for just such an eventuality. However, it’s something we’ve never had to use.

Have you ever had to use either of the Nokia Lumia 610 reset methods? Did it work okay? Let us know your experiences in the Comments below.
