The Nokia Lumia 820 is a 4.3-inch smartphone running the Windows Phone 8 operating system that also includes a couple of amazing audio features you simply won’t find in other smartphones. Dolby Headphone is unique to Nokia Lumia, while the audio equaliser is new to Windows Phone. Find out how well they handle with our Dolby Headphone and Equalizer hands-onĀ on Nokia Lumia 820.

As with all Nokia Lumia smartphones you’ll find Nokia Music and Nokia Mix Radio an integral part of the user experience. The free music streaming and download caching service is hassle free and makes discovering new and favourite tunes easier than ever.

In order to get even more from the audio on your mobile phone you need a great audio experience and that’s why the Nokia Lumia 820 (and Nokia Lumia 920) comes with a couple of unique audio features built in that you simply won’t find in other handsets.

Dolby Headphone

Dolby is nothing new on a Nokia smartphone, it’s already been used in the Nokia N8, Nokia 700 and Nokia 808 PureView. However, with the Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920 you’ll find Dolby Headphone technology built-in, which delivers the most natural and comfortable audio experience around.

Basically, it offers a fully and deeper surround-sound when you’re wearing headphones. Using state-of-the-art digital processing technology, it creates an illusion of a fuller surround-sound. What’s more, while Dolby Headphone can be found on other high-end consumer devices, it’s exclusive to Nokia in the mobile phone space. To use it all you need do is drop down into Settings > Audio and tap to turn it on.

Nokia Equalizer

Nokia offers up a seven channel equaliser so you can create the audio tone you like the best. It’s easy to use and allows you to create a Custom tone that matches your preferences and no matter whether you have the most expensive headphones or just an average pair, you’ll get the best audio possible.

What’s more, for those who aren’t quite audiophiles there are 17 presets to choose from, ranging from Speech for when you’re listening to audio books, for example, up to Loudness, Electronic and Dance, each one with its own signature settings so you can personalise your Nokia Lumia 820 to the sound you prefer.

We’re really impressed with how the addition of an equaliser and Dolby Headphone improves the overall sound quality of your smartphone. If you listen to music for long periods wearing headphones then you need the best audio experience possible and the addition of these two features means you can listen for longer, as you’re simply more comfortable with the sound being created, now can you say that’s the same of your current smartphone?
